Chinese national pleads guilty to escaping from FCI Danbury in December

Xiaoqin Yan, a 32-year-old citizen of China, pleaded guilty on Jan. 20 before U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport to escaping from the custody of the Attorney General.

Yan escaped from the Federal Satellite Low facility at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury on December 10, 2024. She had been serving a federal prison sentence imposed in the Middle District of Alabama for arson and possession of a firearm by an illegal alien.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Yan was apprehended on December 10, 2024, and has remained detained since her arrest.

Judge Dooley scheduled sentencing for July 21. Yan faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years for the escape charge.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Danbury Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anastasia E. King is prosecuting the case.
