Jonathan Williams, 34, of Hartford, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and 20 years of supervised release for possessing child sexual abuse material. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Vernon D. Oliver in Hartford.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut, Williams was identified during an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) into a network using private internet chat groups to share child sexual abuse images and videos. Authorities found that Williams’ account participated actively in one such group.
Williams had previously been convicted in North Carolina in 2015 for third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. On June 1, 2023, investigators searched his residence after obtaining court authorization. During the search, he was arrested when officers found videos depicting child sexual abuse on his laptop. Further examination uncovered more than 1,500 videos and over 7,000 images involving child pornography, including violent and abusive content involving infants and toddlers.
Williams has remained detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty on August 15, 2024, to possession of child pornography charges. His sentencing included enhanced penalties due to his earlier conviction.
The case was investigated with support from the Connecticut Center for Digital Investigations, Connecticut State Police, as well as Hartford and Westport Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings prosecuted the case.
“This prosecution is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which is aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation,” said David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
