A Ledyard resident, Jason Gibson, 45, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in federal court on January 8, 2026. U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams accepted the plea after Gibson waived his right to be indicted.

According to information presented in court, Gibson was previously convicted in state court for possession of child pornography in February 2020 and received a sentence of 10 years, suspended after 30 months, followed by 10 years of probation. He was released from state custody in January 2021. In April 2023, Gibson’s probation was revoked due to violations and he was sentenced to an additional period of incarceration and probation before being released again in August 2023.

On March 6, 2024, state probation officers conducted a routine visit at Gibson’s home and seized an unapproved cellphone containing a dark web application. Analysis of the device uncovered over 200 images and videos depicting child sexual abuse as well as text messages with links to child pornography hosted on the dark web. During another home visit on April 2, 2025, officers seized an external hard drive that contained more than 18,000 images and 1,400 videos related to child sexual abuse. Gibson has been detained since that seizure.

Gibson faces a mandatory minimum prison term of ten years and up to twenty years because of his prior convictions. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.

The investigation is being led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the New Haven Police Department with support from several local police departments and Connecticut Court Support Services Division – Adult Probation Services.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel P. Gordon is prosecuting the case under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which focuses on protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
