A Mexican citizen living in New Haven has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for distributing cocaine. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut, Martin Onofre-Mendez, 50, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall.

Court records show that the DEA New Haven District Office Task Force began investigating Onofre-Mendez in 2024 after learning he was selling drugs from a restaurant on Grand Avenue in New Haven. Between May and September of that year, investigators made several controlled purchases totaling about 600 grams of cocaine from Onofre-Mendez. During two of these transactions, investigators saw Eygner Huezo supply him with cocaine.

On October 1, 2024, authorities arrested Onofre-Mendez and seized 225 grams of cocaine from him and another 480 grams from a storage location he used.

Onofre-Mendez has remained detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty on September 19, 2025, to possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He will be deported to Mexico after serving his sentence.

Huezo, a 36-year-old Salvadoran national also residing in New Haven, pleaded guilty to a related charge on November 10, 2025 and is awaiting sentencing.

The case was investigated by the DEA New Haven District Office Task Force and the New Haven Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. Keefe is prosecuting the case.
