Milford man sentenced for threats against federal law enforcement officer

Hamilton Clark Smith, a 61-year-old resident of Milford, was sentenced to 43 days in prison, which he has already served, and one year of probation for threatening a federal law enforcement officer. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford.

Court documents show that on January 10 and 11, 2023, Smith sent several threatening text messages to a Deputy U.S. Marshal. The messages included threats to harm or kill the officer as well as threats directed at the officer’s family.

Smith was arrested on January 12, 2023, and held until February 16, 2023, when he was released on bond. He pleaded guilty to making repeated harassing communications on April 22, 2024.

Nagala in Hartford to 43 days of imprisonment, time already served, and one year of probation for threatening a federal law enforcement officer.”

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren C. Clark.
