David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Christian Maximo Castaneda Negrete, a 47-year-old citizen of Peru, has been sentenced to six months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in New Haven.
Court records show that Castaneda Negrete first entered the U.S. in July 2001 on a nonimmigrant visa valid for up to one year. In February 2004, he was convicted in Connecticut Superior Court in New Britain for burglary in the first degree and unlawful restraint and received a six-year sentence, suspended after nine months served. He was removed to Peru in March 2012.
Authorities stated that Castaneda Negrete returned to the U.S. without authorization and was arrested by Hartford Police Department on November 20, 2024, facing charges of sexual assault in the second degree.
The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Lembo prosecuted the case.
“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime,” according to Sullivan’s office.
